Ain't no sunshine
Dreariness and rain is hanging over the city, so don't expect much sunshint for the catcams today.
I will probably swap the rocking chair blanket tonight with a more colorful one, and then I'll put the nasty grey blanket currently there on the leather chair as an experiment. We'll see if Piper chews and kneads the replacement blanket like she does the current one, or if she follows it to the other chair.
Until then, let's see if the big shaggy grumpus makes an appearance today.
Security
Customers are responsible for securing their servers. If the server they just bought has been sitting idle in inventory for a while, then the odds are that it's just a tad out of date and needs the usual updates with up2date and rpm and so on.
From the moment I hit an on switch, I think "Patches and updates." Heck, even before that on switch is flicked on, I think "Is it plugged into clean and reliable power."
Apparently, that kind of thinking is not universal.
I always find it amusing when people rush to get their main site up and running while selling off space for resale before configuring iptables or patching their software to secure versions. Sadly, their customers screaming at them usually doesn't help drive home the point that you need to get your shit straight before hanging up your shingle. Instead, the careless admin just shrieks that much louder that it's not their fault they didn't go about patching and securing their system.
